About Me

Little About
Me....

I am the mother of four children: Kaylynn, Leighton, Emma and Mason. Kaylynn recently married a wonderful man and we are happy to add him to our family. I enjoy staying busy outside in my yard working in my flower beds, when weather permits. During the fall and winter, I have enjoyed spending time catching up reading as well as quilting and sewing.

My mother was a teacher for over 20 years, I grew up being a teacher's kid. Some of the most memorable adults in my life were my personal teachers. Teachers have an amazing ability to pour into the lives of their students for 9 months of the year. Kids spend more of their awake time during the school year with their teachers than they do their own parents. I have spent years working with teens through volunteer work at our local church, so pursing my teaching degree only came natural. I chose Family & Consumer Sciences because I believe teens need to learn basic life skills in order to be successful adults.

As I stated earlier, I am currently a substitute teacher. I believe subbing in various grades and classrooms has sharpened my classroom management skills along with given me the opportunity to observe what works and what doesn't work in the classroom setting. Walking into a new classroom and teaching from a lesson plan that is provided requires me to use my skills and techniques I've developed while in college courses.

I completed my student teaching at the Aurora R-VII School District. My cooperating teacher was Mrs. Emily Rowe. I had two hours of Junior High Students and four hours of High School students. The subjects taught included: Nutrition & Meals, Child Development, and Family Relations. I enjoyed my time in the classroom!

In addition to subbing, my practicum placements have provided me with an opportunity to learn under some of Southwest Missouri's finest FCS teachers. My placements have included, Mrs. Samantha Cosper in Cassville High School, Mrs. Kristi Hodson at Carthage High School and Mrs. Karen Mason at East Newton High School in Granby, Missouri. Each of these teachers gave me insight into what they have found works in their classroom, as well as what they've tried and found to not be successful. I feel very fortunate to have been in successful FCS classrooms.
